It's been a long time, almost a year that I didn't update anything about the situation in Nepal. I do apologize for the late post. I have been busy doing lots of things such as concluding my academic year, making an internship, writing and defending my thesis as well as some other personal issues. Now, finally I am graduated and I have time to keep you updated about the situation in Nepal.
The situation in Nepal is slowly getting back to normal. There are still some earthquakes but not as big as before. The main efforts of the Government have concentrated on the finalization of a long overdue new constitution. The Government is also doing everything to reconstruct the damaged monuments since the priority is given to the cultural heritage to lure more tourists; on the other hand, the locals have suffered from a blockade on the Indian border: for more than three months, most of the commodities such as petrol or gas have been unavailable. The generous help my country has received from all over the world is still being processed by the Nepali Administration and has not yet reached the people in need.
La situation là-bas revient peu à peu à la normale. Il y a encore quelques secousses mais bien moins fortes qu'il y a un an. Le gouvernement a concentré ses efforts sur la rédaction et la ratification d'une constitution attendue depuis trop longtemps. Sa priorité est la reconstruction des monuments détruits avec pour objectif la relance du tourisme, la principale activité économique du pays. Pour les habitants en revanche, la situation est encore difficile. Ils ont souffert du blocus de la frontière avec l'Inde qui les a privé pendant plus de trois mois des produits de base comme le gas et l'essence. L'aide généreuse que mon pays a reçu du monde entier n'a pas encore été distribuée aux personnes qui en ont besoin.
On a personal level, my maternal Grandmother passed away in February 2016. She is not a direct victim of the earthquake, but at nearly 80, seing her house in ruins has deteriorated her already poor health.
Sur un plan personnel, ma grand-mère maternelle est décédée en février 2016. Sans être une victime directe du tremblement de terre, voir la maison dans laquelle elle a passé ses presque 80 ans détruite n'a fait que détériorer une santé chancelante.
Finally, after a long wait due to the uncertainties of the future, the contradictory news and more generally the lack of reliable information as to the future, my younger brother Ravi, a civil Engineer, is taking charge of the construction of a new house. He has drawn all the plans and has been busy planning the construction. A religious ceremony was held on the construction site on April 22nd, followed by the digging of a water well as is the tradition in Nepal. We are now laying the foundation. It will be a small house on a small land : a floor size of 63 sqm, 3 floors plus a terrace roof.
Finalement, après une longue attente imputable aux incertitudes sur l'avenir, aux informations contradictoires et incertaines quant la marche à suivre pour se lancer dans la reconstruction, mon jeune frère Ravi, ingénieur civil de formation, a pris en charge la construction d'une nouvelle maison pour la famille. Il en a dessiné les plans et supervisé la planification. Une cérémonie religieuse (équivalent de la pose de la première pierre) s'est déroulée le 22 avril. Comme toujours au Népal, la première étape a consisté à creuser un puits pour accéder à l'eau. Nous en sommes actuellement aux fondations. Ce sera une petite maison, construite sur un petit terrain : surface au sol de la maison : 63 m2 ; trois niveaux et un toit en terrasse.
All the funds I've collected as well as most of the money I earn have now been transferred to Nepal; Ravi uses them wisely to buy construction materials and pay the workers.
Tous les fonds que j'ai récolté ainsi que la plus grande partie de mon salaire a été transféré au Népal ; Ravi en fait bon usage pour l'achat des matériaux et la rémunération des ouvriers
Your support has been great to rebuild the broken dreams of my family in Nepal. I am so grateful for it. I will keep you updated with coming posts.
